 Heart Rot - Disease |
Pest and disease
Root rot and heart rot are the important diseases observed in Kerala. Providing drainage is most essential for its control. Badly affected plants are destroyed and the remaining plants are drenched with 0.2 % Mancozeb in plant base. Special attention is given for the control of mealy bugs to prevent the infection of pineapple mealy bug wilt associated virus. |
| Pests Mealy bug Mealy bugs are affecting pineapple extensively leading to yield reduction. It is controlled by spraying of 0.05% Quinalphos /Fenitrothion/ Fenthion/ Chlorpyriphos / Dimethoate. Weed control using weedicides and ants control by dusting carbaryl in ant colonies are practiced to control mealy bug attack. |

Scale Insects
Very rarely scale insects are also found to affect pineapple crop. In such cases spraying of Dimethoate is practiced. |
| Sun Burn
During summer months the fruits are protected from the scorching sun light by putting dried grasses, coconut or arecanut leaves, apart from irrigation.
